He introduces himself as a colleague of their beloved son and gets comfortable around the house pretty soon much to the annoyance of the father and the raising suspicion of the elder daughter. Initially he behaves like a messiah on a mission to protect the family from any kind of harm but when his real identity is finally revealed, it was already too late. The film picks up pace like a horse in a race from that point onward and maintains its momentum right till the volatile ending. As mentioned earlier the film works mainly because of the effortless manipulation of the grey shaded protagonist who is extreme both in his affections and hatred. ‘Edge of Fear’ tells the helpless story of a man who gets stabbed in the chest by a bunch of invaders.

The ruthless criminals use Susy’s blindness against her to terrorize her while in pursuit of the drugs. Once Susy realizes she is in danger, she tries to level the playing field by destroying all the lights in the home. Actress Kate Siegel wrote this movie with director Mike Flanagan about a deaf woman living in the woods, who ends up fighting for survival against a masked killer. Watching someone navigate the most desperate moments of her life while trapped in complete silence provokes a distinct type of anxiety, and Siegel does an excellent job. Watching three men gaslight a vulnerable woman evokes a timeless anxiety and fear, and Hepburn earned every bit of praise she got for this role.
What makes this movie such a wonder of genre and style is in how it maintains its suspense. Don’t Breathe sticks the landing on tension and intermittent flashes of extreme violence and even assault. It’s a savage thriller in this regard, with shades of something that may feel like a slasher movie. Don’t Breathe benefits even further from its cast, particularly Jane Levy and Stephen Lang as The Blind Man. Lang’s performance proved so arresting and wounding, he was questionably turned into something of an antihero for the sequel.
